We secured three crucial points in our penultimate game of the Women’s Super League season on Wednesday, defeating Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 at Emirates Stadium.

Beth Mead opened the scoring before Caitlin Foord struck twice in the second half, leaving us just one point behind league leaders Chelsea going into the final weekend of the 2021/22 campaign.

After starting the game with high intensity to our attacking play, Mead opened the scoring after being picked out by an incisive Leah Williamson pass, driving forward to the edge of the area before firing into the bottom corner.

Tottenham came close to an equaliser almost instantly after via a chaotic goalmouth scramble, but we soon regained control of the tie and kept the visitors at arms length, with Vivianne Miedema and Foord coming close to adding a second.

Following the break, we continued to show maturity in our play as we balanced risk and reward with each attack, and we were eventually rewarded for our patience with Foord sliding in at the back post to convert Miedema’s delivery.

Our third and final goal of the evening was the best of the bunch, though, with Foord picking up the ball on the left wing and cutting inside, before curling a stunning effort into the top right corner.

We dominated the game from start to finish, but deep into stoppage time, Tottenham were awarded a penalty after Angela Addison went down inside the area.

Addison stepped up to pull one back for the visitors, but her low effort struck the post, meaning Manuela Zinsberger is still yet to concede a penalty since joining the club.
