It’s time for Spurs to move on and focus!

Focus being the key word right now as we are in a pivotal period for the club.

We know what happened last season and what we didn’t achieve;  now is the time to focus on our future direction.

In order to do this, tough decisions will need to be made in the next few weeks.   The club is currently involved in many trying situations,  namely the ongoing Olympic Stadium issue along with Northumberland Park Development project, plus the Luka saga that, seemingly, will not go away even with the clear stance Daniel Levy has taken on it.  We are also in the midst of the summer transfer window, where little business has been concluded by us even though there has been much speculation in the press as always.

So where does our focus need to be?

I believe these are the key areas our efforts should be concentrated on:

Focus 1
Decide what a suitable price for Luka Modric is, inform his suitors and give a clear deadline for a deal to be done. This then gives us the time to either replace him or know that he is in our plans for the forthcoming season.  I realise that the club issued statements that he is not for sale at any price but I believe that if enough pound notes are waved in our direction he will be sold.

Focus 2
Identify where we need to strengthen (yes, I am laughing whilst writing this!). Obvious I know, but since a lot of teams are making moves earlier in this window we need to spring into action or face the prospect of the top talent no longer being available.  However both Harry Redknapp and Daniel Levy have said though ‘we need to sell before we can buy’, which leaves us in somewhat of a Catch 22 situation.  Perhaps the club needs to rethink their Modric stance and lower their fringe player prices?

Focus 3
Preseason friendlies are just about to start and Harry Redknapp won’t be with the team in South Africa due to his impending court appearance next week .  Whilst I don’t expect ‘Arry to be staying at Her Majesty’s pleasure , I am sure the club must have thought of every possible scenario and the ‘what if’ as the possible consequences are huge and preseason is the crucial time for plans and tactics to be made not ripped apart.

Focus 4
The Olympic Stadium issue and Northumberland Park Development project.  Levy is progressing with both and almost playing one off against the other now. This will continue for the foreseeable future as all avenues will be explored; one thing is for sure we need a larger capacity stadium.

With so much going on in the next month we need to be strong, have direction and get the business done so Spurs can have a great season and look to a fantastic future.

I am now just hoping that, our transfer business is done way before the last week in August, we sell off our ‘surplus to requirements’ players quickly enabling Luka to stay, and the NPD project gets the funding we are looking for to proceed.  Obviously,  this is Tottenham we are talking about so everything will be prolonged and drawn out for as long as possible until the last minute. After all, we all love the roller coaster ride,  right?

I think Focus 4 is a problem, I note in a lot of trade mags (Building) and the bigger broadsheets are quoting a government minister suggesting that SPURS drop their chase for a judicial review because it will interfere with the athletics world cup bid!!!!!!! We wouldn’t have this problem if government had done the right thing.

  • Sell that little snake Modric replace him with another deep lying midfielder twos strikers ,1 targetman one who can play right wing.Strong centre back. and Carlo ancelotti.

  • Modric CAN NOT go…We should make a statement. We will not be bullied. HE IS TOO GOOD.

  • Keep things as they are. Who are we trying to kid, we ain`t finishing 4th this season, I am very sorry to say, I think Levy knows that. If we were intent on a continued CL run we would have brought in a striker or two in January whilst we still had the pulling power of CL footie, we didn`t so we now have the problems associated with our lack of ambition. Don`t get me wrong, I love Spurs, been a fan for 40 years will be another 40 hopefully.

For me its time to go all in, get all the cash on the table and bring in 2 top top class strikers (say 30k each) sell fringe players (bring in say 30k overall) , give moders his rise (he need 100k per week to stay). give Bale a rise to keep barca off. Lets really go for it.

  • I think Focus 1 is a problem, so you put a price on Modric say £40 million, then come the 1st August Chelsea dont bid, you are then left with Modric not knowing if he is coming or going and made it clear we were willing to sell after all. Sorry whilst i think it would be nice to draw a line under things and move on it is NEVER that simple.

  • Why does Levy always prolong buying someone in the transfer market. The only reason I can think of is he loves a special deal and whilst that is all going on we are left with hardly anyone to pick from. I always thought Levy was a clever man but surely his game plan in the transfer market is flawed and he must know that surely. I can sense that a lot of fans are slowly becoming more fed up with his tactics and I believe this will be his downfall if he doesn’t get into gear and show fans he has ambition along with the owners and most of all Redknapp. Redknapp also worries me with his negativity and the players he reportedly is after. They are either too old or a player he has worked with before and let’s players with a lot of talent and promise just fade away into oblivion such as Dos Santos, Bostock, Kranjcar and Taarabt. Things are not looking good at the moment and I am getting fed up looking in the papers every day for some positive news coming out of Tottenham and each day it is just gloom and doom. People say be patient but for how long? It’s the same old Levy story every transfer window. I don’t blame the players for missing out on Champions League I blame Levy for not doing any business when we eventually got into the competition and he has to take full responsibility for Spurs not kicking on due to his lack of ambition or stinginess in the transfer market together with Redknapps poor targets and negativity.

  • Lots of truth in what the bitter fans are claiming. Both Levy & HR should take heed. We definately cannot count on the deadline date to bring in new blood as this is what cost us to qualify for CL status.

  • In fairness if I were Levy I would be worried about doing a Leeds. There are only four CL spots to get him his money back if he overstretches and two of these have been bought by bilionaires for their toy clubs, able to blow our Daniel out of the water on transfer fees and wages. With Man Utd unlikely to obligingly disappear that leaves Spurs contending for the fourth spot with at least Arsenal and Liverpool, both of which have larger capacity stadiums. The priority must be a 60,000 seater stadium to tap into the guaranteed extra support. Until it’s built we’ll have the Carrick, Berbatov and Modric saga every year.
